International Women's Day 2016

Women Techmakers Kathmandu has been celebrating International Women’s Day Global event Series since 2014 and is celebrated for the third time in Local Development Training Academy, Jawalakhel,Lalitpur on 2nd April 2016 with productive outcome.

Girls Participation: 91%

Event started with registration and distribution of IWD2016 Kit to the participants which included Women Techmakers T-Shirts,Badges,Stickers and other stationeries.
Beginning with Keynote speech by Manisha Panta there was an interactive Icebreaker Session organized by Rajina Shrestha, with a brain teasing game which effectively helped in networking for all the participants.

Mona Nyacchyon: She had an inspiring talk on “Girls in ICT”
Started as a Software Developer at Verisk Information Technologies, then leading projects as Lead Scrum Master, Engineering Manager, Project Manager, Ms. Mona has had over 10 years of experience. She is currently the Chief Executive Officer at Logpoint. Logpoint is a Software Development Company founded in 2008 as a branch of the Danish IT company.

Sraddhanjali Acharya:  “Behind the scenes of Ecommerce”
Currently working as System Developer at Whitespace Pvt. Ltd. She talked about the usage of Google products in ecommerce applications. Her interests are in Computer Vision, Human Computer Interaction, Internet of Things, Machine Learning.


Rasu Neupane:  “ Women Leadership in Tech”
Rasu Neupane is high school graduate with background in web development. Before pursuing her undergraduate studies in Computer Science, she is working as freelance PHP developer. She is also a member of Women Leaders in Technology. Her interest are in Quantum Physics, Cryptography and Algorithm Development.



Part II: Workshops
Google Maps (Mapping Nepal Workshop):
Participants learnt how to map the places you know and love, with so much of excitement and enthusiasm they learnt best practices for how to add, edit, and review the maps of the places around them and became part of Google Map Maker’s Community.Additionally, they also learnt the benefits of Google Local Guides points and levels.

Hardware Workshop(Arduino Day Celebration):
  As 2nd April was also Arduino day, for its celebration  participants were requested to bring laptop with Arduino development software.They learnt  basic sensor techniques, how to use Arduino, Light up and blink LEDs.
Facilitated by Miss Tech Group, Robotics Association of Nepal.



After these workshops there was Announcement for following events * WLiT Bootcamp * NASA Space Apps Challenge * Girls in ICT Day


Along with playing a Video Celebrating Women in Technology, there was demonstration of  Android Watch ,Google Glass and Google Cardboard.



Finally event was wrapped up with Group Photo Shoot.

An Objective of celebrating International Women’s Day by inspiring and creating visibility for women in STEM with activities that are impactful to the community was accomplished where participants were highly motivated and triggered to contribute from their side for the betterment of community.
We are thankful to all the members of organizing team, volunteers, supporters for their commitment to excellence, intelligent planning, and focused effort.
